Meihana Durie

He uri nō ngā iwi o Ngāti Kauwhata, Rangitāne,
Ngāti Porou, Rongo Whakaata me Ngāi Tahu

Professor Meihana Durie was a panellist for the Tākiri Tū Te Ora Workshop at this year’s Hui aa Motu
hosted by the Kīngitanga and previously helped bring forward the ‘Te Pene Raupatu’
submission on behalf of his iwi of Ngāti Kauwhata as a part of the Waitangi Tribunal
Porirua ki Manawatū Inquiry. More recently he has served as a Pou Tikanga for the
Waitangi Tribunal Constitutional Inquiry.

Meihana carries a number of leadership roles for his iwi of Ngāti Kauwhata and
Rangitāne and is Deputy Vice Chancellor Māori at Massey University where his office
oversee a number of university-wide Te Tiriti research, educational and leadership
initiatives. His presentation will draw on selected Te Tiriti issues to demonstrate how
important the past is in informing and determining Te Tiriti-led futures.

Meihana’s kōrero will examine both recent and historical critical issues that may be useful in helping to determine the shape of Te Tiriti-led Futures for Aotearoa across the next decade and beyond.
