About the event
The Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) is legally required to review the Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994 (the Act) and the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights (the Code) and make recommendations to the Minister of Health. HDC delivered its most recent report to the Minister of Health in December 2024. Critical Tiriti Analysis helped guide the review process, the analysis undertaken and the conclusions arrived at. HDC’s Māori Directorate were integral throughout and together with the wider team, led waananga with rangatira, Māori health and disability leaders, lived experience leaders, providers, consumers and other sector stakeholders to understand and assess current state, and make recommendations. The review report identifies a range of opportunities to improve the Act and Code in its alignment with Te Tiriti and to improve health outcomes for Māori and all New Zealanders.
